Linking Leyland 10km Fun Run & Walk – Review

What was the fun run/walk for and where did it take place?

As part of the ‘Linking Leyland’ charity fun day, raising vital funds for Leyland Trucks Helping Hand beneficiary charities (as listed below). The headline sponsor was the Rotary Club of Leyland, with TRB leading the organisation of the 10k fun run & walk.

The fun run/walk started and finished at Leyland Trucks main gates, with the course being mildly a undulating out & back route – taking in Farington Park and some local country lanes.

How did the fun run/walk go on the day?

56 brave participants started the 10k at 10.30am, in hotter than forecast 23c sunshine and were back for lunch-time to enjoy the fun day activities, some even had enough puff left to participate in the truck pull!

Whilst the fun run & walk wasn’t timed the top three super fit runners all finished within 40 minutes, with Gary Hill leading the entire way and finished first. There was an epic battle for second between local legend Paul Muller and Stuart Nixon of Preston Harriers fame – Paul just edging ahead at the finish. Great running gents.

Even the walkers were super speedy, with all finishers completed the testing 10k within two hours. Everyone received well earned refreshments, an epic medal and 4 x tickets to the fun day.

Monies raised

The fun runners & walkers raised over £800 toward the overall ‘Linking Leyland’ pot, rumour has it that over 4000 people attended the fun day – raising several thousands of pounds towards the Helping Hand charities. If you’d like to donate more to these great causes, the JustGiving page is here.

A huge thanks not only to the generous participants, but also the volunteers and high-viz heroes for ensuring a safe run & walk was possible.
